In Loving Memory of Marley

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved yellow Labrador Retriever, Marley, who lost his battle with cancer today.
From the very beginning, Marley had a way of making himself impossible not to love. The moment we met him, he snuggled up against my neck, and it was love at first sight. In that instant, I knew he was meant to be part of our family.
For nearly ten years, Marley filled our lives with love, loyalty, laughter, and a kind of companionship that only a dog can give. He was so much more than a pet. He was family.
Marley loved the simple things in life—especially swimming and chasing balls. He could spend hours in the water, completely in his element, and there was nothing quite like watching him race after a ball. Of course, there was one small problem: Marley didn’t always believe that chasing the ball meant he had to give it back. Once he had it, it was his, and he was perfectly happy to make you negotiate for its return.
Marley was also a devoted big brother to his sister, Sadie. He was protective of her and always seemed to keep a watchful eye on his little sister. He loved her dearly—although he had a very particular definition of sharing. His toys were his. Sadie’s toys were also, apparently, his. And if Sadie happened to have something interesting, Marley was more than happy to remind her that he was the big brother. Their relationship was full of love, personality, and the kind of sibling antics that will be remembered forever.
To Kaleigh, Marley was a constant companion, best friend, and confidant. He was there for the good days, the difficult days, the quiet moments, and everything in between. He listened without judgment, stayed close when he was needed most, and loved her with his whole heart. Their bond was something truly special.
Marley had the beautiful gift of simply being there. His presence could make a house feel like home. He gave the best kind of love—steady, unconditional, and without asking for anything in return.
Cancer may have taken Marley from us today, but it can never take away the years of memories, the countless moments of joy, or the love he gave so freely.
We will miss his face, his presence, his companionship, his love of the water, his ball-chasing adventures, and his very particular rules about sharing. We will miss watching him look after Sadie. And most of all, we will miss knowing that he is just around the corner, ready to be by our side.
Run free, sweet Marley. Find the biggest lake, chase every ball you can find, and keep a few for yourself. Look after your family from wherever you are, and maybe—just maybe—let Sadie have one of the toys.
You were deeply loved. You were part of our family. You were Kaleigh’s best friend, Sadie’s big brother, and our beloved boy.
You will never be forgotten.
